Why "I'll Do Anything" Gets You Nowhere

If you are searching for a position, announcing that "I'll do anything" is actually one of the worst things to say to those in your network (friends, family, former co-workers, and contacts).

Your contacts actually have an easier time helping you when you an articulate your career interests - a position you'd like to hold, a field you wish to enter, a city you'd like to relocate to.

While being flexible is a GOOD thing, you'll want to give your contacts a fairly clear indication of where you see yourself going. It's okay to choose a few fields. For example, you might say "Since my experience has been in medical sales, I definitely have some transferrable skills that I could apply to other types of positions, like university development, fundraising, or sales in another field."
